We have two boys under 3. I stopped working after child #2 was born due to childcare costs for two, they are 1 year apart. My husband works for/in a family business that has been failing for years. They continue to borrow money from whoever they can (also took my credit cards, in my name only, and charged over 9,000 for his family’s company costs) to continue feeding into his and his partner’s dream of making it big. I am all for dreams but they have been in business since they were 13 and are now over 40 and we have young children now. We are always just a day away from making the mortgage payment before foreclosure and a day away from making the car payment before it is repossessed, then magically he gets the money from somewhere just in time to save the house and car. Before we met, married and had our children, which happened within two years, I had my own home, made a decent living and always paid my bills on time. I offered to work and he could stay home but he refused. He continues to have this addiction to this business which is not legally his anyway. He says he will never find another job. We have just one family member watch the toddlers a very limited number of hours and the pay from my P/T job during those hours just pays for food. Now, the company is shutting down and I will be out of work. I cannot leave or get a divorce until the children are in F/T school and I have a F/T job. I don’t want to pay the $2600 house payment anymore or the $600 car payment he insists on paying late…we have no money for any essentials, especially the credit cards he used or anything else. Thank God we have Family Health Plus for health insurance. When I tell him I want to sell the car or house he becomes very angry. He already threatened to kill me once which I reported to the police. I had started therapy thinking he would also start but he works 14 hour days 6 days a week so has no time for that or anything else. I am like a single parent with no income and now very bad credit. I am at my wits end, what can I possibly do?
I have been looking for F/T positions anyway, but the childcare cost for two preschoolers while I am at work F/T is a minimum of $540 weekly. The rest of the paycheck is not enough to live on.
